Vision & Control at the Robotics, Automation & Vision forum

On 25 and 26 April, Vision & Control contributed two presentations to the Robotics, Automation & Vision forum at Hannover Messe 2012. Further to the activities at the sercos e.V. joint stand, a panel discussion with Managing Director Dr Jürgen Geffe and a talk by Ms Sarah Büchner complemented the programme with two key events within the area of ‘Vision’.

‘Is industrial image processing a necessary part of zero-defect production?’ This was the heading of the panel discussion involving representatives from not only Vision & Control but also from Festo, Pepperl + Fuchs, and Solving 3D. All of those involved in the discussion unanimously agreed that image processing is of key importance in this regard. Dr Geffe also emphasised that nowadays, image processing is no longer just used to sort out substandard parts; it is also increasingly used for managing and controlling machines. He went on to say that this can only be achieved through the use of complex image processing systems combined with excellent service, feasibility support from the image processors and expertise by the suppliers and users of the image processing technology.

In her talk on ‘Field buses in image processing – which one should I use?’, Ms Büchner covered new aspects of image processing. She spoke about the advantages and potential uses of the sercos automation bus, which the audience received with interest and posed a number of technical questions.
